St. Vincent de Paul participates in the First LEGO League. Robotics is a club activity at St. Vincent de Paul, which means that for the program to run, we need parent volunteers to lead the teams. The more volunteers we have, the more teams we can form!
Robotics teams are categorized into three groups: Explore, Challenge, and Tech Challenge.
FIRST Lego League Explore
Grades 1-3
In Explore, teams focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design, and code, and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO® Education SPIKE Essential. Teams will be work on a project during their weekly meetings which is then presented at an end-of-year expo in Regan Hall in mid-January. Explore teams are comprised of 6 students and 2 coaches.
FIRST Lego League Challenge
Grades 4-8
Friendly competition is at the heart of Challenge, as teams of students engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering - building and programming a LEGO robot that navigates the missions of a robot game. Challenge teams are comprised of 8 students and 2 coaches.
FIRST Tech Challenge
Grades 7-8
It’s way more than building robots. FIRST Tech Challenge teams are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Students are guided by adult coaches and mentors, developing STEM skills and practicing engineering principles, while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and working as a team. Tech Challenge teams are comprised of up to 12 students and 2 coaches.

2025-2026 School Year Update
Our Robotics program has been powered by the passion and dedication of parent volunteers—and we’re so grateful for all they’ve done! This year, we’re taking a break as we reorganize and look for new parent leaders to guide the program’s next chapter.
