Health and Wellness

Please keep your student home if they aren’t feeling well. 
If your child will be absent, please notify the school each day of the absence by one of the following methods:

• Fill out the Attendance Form here
• Email [email protected] and your child’s homeroom teacher
• Call the school before 8:00 AM

If you have questions for the Health Office, please email [email protected]. This ensures your message is received promptly, rather than going to individual nurses.

We’re grateful for our wonderful school nurses who help care for our students each week. Their schedule for the 2025–2026 school year is:

• Nurse Sam – Tuesdays & Thursdays

• Nurse Katie – Wednesdays

• Nurse Maria – Fridays

On Mondays, our school administration team will be available to assist with student health needs.

If an infectious disease is reported in your student's classroom to SVDP, you will be notified via Blackbaud. Schools are required to report infectious diseases to the state.

St. Vincent de Paul School works to make appropriate plans for students with special healthcare needs. The primary responsibility for a student's healthcare rests with the parent or guardian. School health services are supportive healthcare that enables students to receive an education safely. Please visit the 'Health Forms' page to fill out the necessary forms to help us safely educate your child.

St. Vincent de Paul School contracts with Phoenix School Counseling for counseling services. Dr. Steve Kahn is the founder of this group that now works in 25 Catholic schools throughout the greater Twin Cities area. Counselors are available to meet individually with students upon parent request and to provide classroom guidance sessions on any needed topic. 

Our School Counselor, Angie Donohoo, will be at school Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during the 2025-2026 school year. 

In addition to the services provided by Mrs. Donohoo, Dr. Jules Nolan acts as the School Psychologist. Dr. Nolan's services are available to St. Vincent de Paul families free of charge. Phoenix School Counseling welcomes your calls whatever the reason. 

Typical requests for our services fall under the following categories:

Counseling - Students are able to meet with the Counselor for any reason with parent permission for a 6-week intervention. 

Classroom Presentations and Groups - they provide classroom presentations on just about any topic and can offer groups focusing on grief issues, family change, social skills, and academic skills.

Testing - They will usually provide testing services directly such as assessments and diagnostic evaluations for developmental issues that affect school performance. If there is a need for something outside our areas of expertise, they will help St. Vincent de Paul families find exactly what is needed. Testing is available for attention, learning or emotional concerns. There is never a charge for any service from Dr. Nolan or her counselors as they are included as part of your tuition.

Immunizations
To go to school in Minnesota, students must show they've had the required immunizations, or must file a legal exemption* with the school.

*Parents may file a medical exemption signed by a health care provider or provide conscientious objection signed by parent/guardian and notarized.

The following immunization forms need to be completed and turned in by the first day of school if:

• The student is new to SVDP
• The student is entering kindergarten

Medication Administration During the School Day
If your student needs medication administered during the school day, please complete the following form each school year:

Tylenol or other over-the-counter medicines will be administered only with a physician's written order, in addition to the parent authorization. Such over-the-counter medication must be in the original container.

Individualized Healthcare Plan
An Individualized Healthcare Plan (IHP) shall document the student's health concern/need, plan of care, and goals/desired outcomes. The IHP should also include an emergency plan if a student's condition may predictably result in an emergency situation. The IHP is written by the Registered Nurse, reviewed by the parent, and is filed in the student's health folder. 

Information regarding a student's health needs will be shared with those personnel who need to know in order to work with that student. This information shall be considered private in accordance with federal and state data practices law.
